{"id":988,"date":"2010-02-25T09:34:55","date_gmt":"2010-02-25T17:34:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/?p=988"},"modified":"2010-02-25T09:34:55","modified_gmt":"2010-02-25T17:34:55","slug":"previously-on-crazy-project-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/2010\/02\/25\/previously-on-crazy-project-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Previously on Crazy Project Weekend&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/PreviouslyOn....png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-989\" title=\"PreviouslyOn...\" src=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/PreviouslyOn....png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Crazy Project Weekend is when I take an extended weekend and dedicate my time to a AAA project:\u00c2\u00a0 One that is Achievable, Awesome, and slightly Abnormal.\u00c2\u00a0 There are a couple of rules, made up on the spot this instant,\u00c2\u00a0guiding the Crazy Project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work must be done within the limited weekend time frame.\u00c2\u00a0 You cannot begin any concrete work prior to the time window, and if you do not complete by the end of the time, you have failed.\u00c2\u00a0 You may do some preparation ahead of time, such as feasibility research or acquiring necessary materials, however, nothing should be built and there should be no written plans.\u00c2\u00a0 The point is to see what can be done in five days, not what can be done in five days and a couple of hours an evening for three weeks prior to those five days.\u00c2\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It must not be something you would otherwise normally do.\u00c2\u00a0 Setting up a website with a blog and a bunch of pictures of the dog doesn&#8217;t count.\u00c2\u00a0 Cleaning the garage doesn&#8217;t count.\u00c2\u00a0 It must not be something that <em>anyone<\/em> would normally do.<\/li>\n<li>You have to learn something.\u00c2\u00a0 If you know exactly what you&#8217;re doing going in, then it&#8217;s no fun.\u00c2\u00a0 One of the central pieces of the project must involve something you&#8217;ve never worked with before.\u00c2\u00a0 There must be several moments where you have no idea what in the hell you&#8217;re doing and wonder what you&#8217;ve gotten yourself into.<\/li>\n<li>You must post regular progress updates throughout the weekend, detailing what you&#8217;re doing and what you&#8217;ve done.\u00c2\u00a0 Viewers must be able to get a glimpse of your thought process and understand what you&#8217;re going through.\u00c2\u00a0 You should talk about initial goals and milestones, obstacles you see on the path to those milestones, and the general approach you plan to take.<\/li>\n<li>Reaction from outsiders to your project must be a mix of &#8220;Why did you do that?&#8221;
