{"id":2111,"date":"2011-04-15T00:09:19","date_gmt":"2011-04-15T07:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/?p=2111"},"modified":"2011-04-15T00:09:19","modified_gmt":"2011-04-15T07:09:19","slug":"nintendo-3ds-picture-packs-and-viewing-2d-images-on-the-3ds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/2011\/04\/15\/nintendo-3ds-picture-packs-and-viewing-2d-images-on-the-3ds\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo 3DS Picture Packs and Viewing 2D Images on the 3DS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my last post, I described how to prepare your own 3D pictures for viewing on the Nintendo 3DS.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, most of you probably don&#8217;t have your own 3D camera, so those steps aren&#8217;t terribly useful to you.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of you will want to put\u00c2\u00a0someone else&#8217;s 3D MPO files onto\u00c2\u00a0your 3DS.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a bunch of 3D pictures I&#8217;ve taken with my 3D camera, all packaged up and ready for your to put on your 3DS: <a href=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/3DS\/index.html\">Nintendo 3DS Picture Packs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Detailed instructions are available over\u00c2\u00a0there, but it&#8217;s basically open the ZIP file, copy the directory in the ZIP into the DCIM directory on an SD card, then stick the SD card in the 3DS and you&#8217;re ready to go.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, if you want to put your own 2D pictures onto the 3DS, you can do pretty much the same thing.\u00c2\u00a0 The trickiest part is naming the images the right thing.\u00c2\u00a0 You have to put your images in a certain directory and name your images a certain way or the 3DS will get confused and refuse to show them.\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not exactly sure what the rules are, but I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had fairly good luck with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Design_rule_for_Camera_File_system\">DCF Standard<\/a> for naming files and folders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Files:<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153<em>CCCC####.jpg<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153, where C is an alphanumeric character (including \u00e2\u20ac\u0153_\u00e2\u20ac\u009d), and #### is a four digit number between \u00e2\u20ac\u01530001\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3 and \u00e2\u20ac\u01539999\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u01530000\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3 cannot be used.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid: ABCD1234.jpg, 12341234.jpg, HNI_0001.jpg, ZLDA6502.jpg, YOSE0032.jpg, IMG_1234.jpg<\/li>\n<li>Invalid: Picture.jpg, 3D.jpg, 1234ABCD.jpg, ABCD0000.jpg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Directories:<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153<em>###CCCCC<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153, where C is an alphanumeric character\u00c2\u00a0(including \u00e2\u20ac\u0153_\u00e2\u20ac\u009d) and ### is a three digit number between \u00e2\u20ac\u0153100\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3 and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153999\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153000\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3-\u00e2\u20ac\u009d099\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3 cannot be used.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid: 123ABCDE, 12345678, 100NIN03, 128MARIO, 2600YOSE<\/li>\n<li>Invalid: Pictures, 3D, ABCDE123, 065ABCDE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If that naming doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t work, take a picture with the 3DS and mimic its file naming scheme exactly.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also important to notice that the 3DS software isn&#8217;t designed to be a general photo viewer of your own personal pictures.\u00c2\u00a0 It might not like your resolution, aspect ratio, bit depth,\u00c2\u00a0file size, camera type, subject matter, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 There may just simply be no way to get a particular picture to display properly on the device.
