Obviously, for this experiment, I need a Twitter account.\u00c2\u00a0 I’ve never done The Twitter before, so it’s all new to me.\u00c2\u00a0 And of course, there’s no way in hell I’m going to want to use a name that’s even remotely connected to a name I’d want to use, should I join the ranks of Twits myself in the future.<\/p>\n

I needed a name that was right for the game.<\/p>\n

I started tossing around names in my head.\u00c2\u00a0 First were the overly patriotic ones, like “AmericaFan1776” or “RedWhiteAndBlueBlooded”.\u00c2\u00a0 They were way over the top, so I threw them out.\u00c2\u00a0 Then came names from the cult of personality, like “ReaganRocks”, but those seemed too cliche and transparently false.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought about picking some obscure conservative philosophy and twisting it into a name, but I thankfully don’t know much about obscure conservative philosophy.<\/p>\n

I needed something simple and subtle.\u00c2\u00a0 Something appropriate.<\/p>\n

Something like “EchoChamber”.<\/p>\n

It’s perfect.<\/p>\n

It’s relevant to the space.<\/p>\n

It could be considered a knowingly sarcastic jab at The Liberal Media\u00e2\u201e\u00a2, who derides the targeted community with that name.<\/p>\n

It’s exactly what I’m writing the program to do.<\/p>\n

It’s… taken.<\/p>\n

Crap.<\/p>\n

“TheEchoChamber”?\u00c2\u00a0 That has more authority.<\/p>\n

Nope.\u00c2\u00a0 Taken.<\/p>\n

Damn.<\/p>\n

Hmmm…\u00c2\u00a0 “EccoChamber”?\u00c2\u00a0 Now it’s a relevant knowingly sarcastic jab AND a video game reference, all in one.<\/p>\n

Even better, that dolphin is so frickin’ patriotic that he’s got STARS TATTOOED ON HIS FOREHEAD<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 ((Or is Ecco a she?\u00c2\u00a0 I don’t know.\u00c2\u00a0 I’ve never actually played the game…))\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0And look at how badass he is in that picture.\u00c2\u00a0 I hear he tore up a boatful of Godless\u00c2\u00a0unwashed hippies from Greenpeace last Tuesday.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh hell yeah, that’s REAL\u00c2\u00a0AMERICA for you!<\/p>\n

And the name is free.\u00c2\u00a0 Or rather was<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s mine now.<\/p>\n

Once the account was set up, I had to follow every right-wing lunatic that was presented to me on the sign-up page.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s following Glenn Beck, John Boehner, Jan Brewer,\u00c2\u00a0among others.\u00c2\u00a0 And, of course, the Mama Grizzly herself.\u00c2\u00a0 These accounts will be used for seed data for the system.\u00c2\u00a0 Depending on how advanced I feel like getting, the system may also start following whoever they retweet or people who retweet them, as well as following their posted links and scraping those pages for content.<\/p>\n
