{"id":1132,"date":"2010-02-27T00:39:14","date_gmt":"2010-02-27T08:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/?p=1132"},"modified":"2010-02-27T00:39:14","modified_gmt":"2010-02-27T08:39:14","slug":"victory-at-last","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/2010\/02\/27\/victory-at-last\/","title":{"rendered":"Victory At Last!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, I finally got a new paddle cage put together.\u00c2\u00a0 While the old one was all stylish and minimalist, this one looks like it&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0built out of Legos.\u00c2\u00a0 Real Legos, too, not those lame Technic beams.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1134\" title=\"NewBot1\" src=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1133\" title=\"NewBot2\" src=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/NewBot2-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Features include gearing to hopefully reduce the impact of the motor overrun, a button pressing motor (Not yet active), and flexible support arm for the angled knob.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a test program that will repeatedly rotate it like crazy and hopefully shake out the bugs.\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s video of it in action.<\/p>\n<p>[mediaplayer src=&#8217;\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/NewRobot1.wmv&#8217; ]<\/p>\n<p>Of course, what kind of test would it be if it didn&#8217;t end in catastrophic structural failure?\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, the camera was not rolling for the chaos, but I assure you it was about as spectacular as it could be given what it is.\u00c2\u00a0 Anyway, I did record the aftermath.<\/p>\n<p>[mediaplayer src=&#8217;\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/NewRobot2.wmv&#8217; ]<\/p>\n<p>The flaw is fairly obvious in the first video, there&#8217;s some tall connector blocks on the spinner that kept knocking against the gear bar.\u00c2\u00a0 Eventually one of them caught and didn&#8217;t knock loose, but the motor\u00c2\u00a0spun the 360 anyway.\u00c2\u00a0 It kinda popped loose for a bit, then shuddered, before eventually collapsing.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve since fixed the problem ((I was going to fix it before even running it the first time, but I wanted to see if it would cause a catastrophic structural failure&#8230;)) and had it run for upwards of ten minutes without issue.<\/p>\n<p>It feels good to have some forward progress.<\/p>\n<p>For those curious, the paddle in the cage is one of the Indy 500 Driving Paddles with a free 360 degree range of motion.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s how it was able to spin\u00c2\u00a0all it wanted without running into the range limitation that&#8217;s in a normal paddle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, I finally got a new paddle cage put together.\u00c2\u00a0 While the old one was all stylish and minimalist, this one looks like it&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0built out of Legos.\u00c2\u00a0 Real Legos, too, not those lame Technic beams.
