{"id":1002,"date":"2010-02-25T12:11:05","date_gmt":"2010-02-25T20:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/?p=1002"},"modified":"2010-02-25T12:12:44","modified_gmt":"2010-02-25T20:12:44","slug":"the-cupcake-of-glory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/2010\/02\/25\/the-cupcake-of-glory\/","title":{"rendered":"The Cupcake of Glory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each Crazy Weekend Project has a crazy goal they&#8217;re aiming for.\u00c2\u00a0 The first was to get a perfect game in Pong.\u00c2\u00a0 The second was to eliminate Wesley Crusher.\u00c2\u00a0 For this one, it&#8217;s joining the Bucket Brigade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadePatch.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1004\" title=\"BucketBrigadePatch\" src=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadePatch-300x257.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadePatch-300x257.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadePatch.jpg 741w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Part of what set Activision apart, aside from making awesome games, was that for pretty much every game, you could get a patch to prove that you&#8217;d obtained some high score.\u00c2\u00a0 Just snap a picture of your score, mail it in, and a few weeks later,\u00c2\u00a0you&#8217;d get three inch <em>trophy<\/em> to commemorate your <em>achievement<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0for free.\u00c2\u00a0 Some games had multiple patches for different difficulty levels.<\/p>\n<p>For Kaboom!, you could get the Activision Bucket Brigade patch for a score of 3000 or higher.\u00c2\u00a0 To reach this level, you had to be good, but you didn&#8217;t have to be perfect.\u00c2\u00a0 An ordinary player would be able to get this score, given enough practice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadeDescription.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1003\" title=\"BucketBrigadeDescription\" src=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadeDescription-300x88.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"88\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadeDescription-300x88.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mathpirate.net\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/BucketBrigadeDescription.jpg 913w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My primary goal for this weekend is to build a robot capable of getting a score in Kaboom! that will qualify it to join the Bucket Brigade.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll then send a picture in to Activision and see what happens&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The spirit of these patches lives on in the XBox 360 and PS3.\u00c2\u00a0 Games for those systems feature Achievements or Trophies which you get for doing something specific in the game.\u00c2\u00a0 However, instead of having just one, games will typically have up to 50.\u00c2\u00a0 And, unfortunately, they&#8217;re all electronic, so you can&#8217;t show them off.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each Crazy Weekend Project has a crazy goal they&#8217;re aiming for.\u00c2\u00a0 The first was to get a perfect game in Pong.\u00c2\u00a0 The second was to eliminate Wesley Crusher.\u00c2\u00a0 For this one, it&#8217;s joining the Bucket Brigade.
